Guest High Holidays Cantor Lori Corrsin

Cantor Lori Corrsin is Cantor Emerita of Congregation Emanu-El of the City of New York and will be with us for the High Holidays. Cantor Corrsin spent many Shabbatot at West End Temple and we are grateful that she is returning to be with us again.  Cantor Corrsin is originally from Detroit and received a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Michigan and a Master’s in Sacred Music from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Ordained as a cantor in 1992, she has served Larchmont Temple in Westchester County, NY and Temple Israel of West Bloomfield, MI. She has performed and taught on the faculty of HUC-JIR and the North American Jewish Choral Festival and is a published composer and recording artist with Transcontinental Music Press.

About Cantor Corrsin

Cantor Josee Wolff, D. Min

Cantor Josee Wolff joins West End Temple this year. Cantor  Wolff is an adjunct faculty member at the School of Sacred Music, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York and a faculty member of the Cantorial School at the Abraham Geiger Kolleg in Berlin Germany.  Previously she was Director of the Department of Synagogue Music of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations and served Reform congregations in the US and Europe for the past 15 years.  She was the Spiritual Leader of Temple Sholom in Floral Park, interim senior cantor at Temple Shaaray Tefilah in New York City, and worked at Temple Shalom in Succasunna, NJ, Congregation Rodeph Sholom in New York City, the Liberal Jewish Congregation in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, the Hebrew Congregation of St. Thomas, USVI, and Temple Adath Yeshurun in Manchester, NH.  Cantor Wolff is a past member of the executive board of the American Conference of Cantors, and she enjoys leading worship and teaching about synagogue music and worship throughout the Progressive Jewish world and volunteers with Disaster Chaplaincy Services New York. A native of The Netherlands, Cantor Wolff holds a degree in flute from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In 1991 she received her Masters degree in Sacred Music from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, School of Sacred Music and was the first woman from the European continent to be invested as a cantor.  In 2010 Cantor Wolff received her Doctorate of Ministry degree from Hebrew Union College.

Rabbi Emerita Marjorie Slome

Rabbi Marjorie Slome retired from West End Temple in June 2020, after serving the synagogue for 15 1/2 years.

 

She was ordained in 1987 at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) in New York City. In the 29 years since her ordination, Rabbi Slome has served as interim Rabbi at Pittsburgh’s Temple Sinai, Rabbi/Educator at Congregation Beth Elohim in Brooklyn, and has directed numerous programs for the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services in New York City. In addition, she has worked for the Union for Reform Judaism and the Jewish Campus Activities Board in Philadelphia.

Rabbi Slome has also served as co-chairperson of the Women’s Rabbinic Network, President of the Brooklyn Association of Reform Rabbis, and Chairperson of the Women’s Rabbinic Alliance while at HUC-JIR.

She holds a Master in Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work and Community Planning, and a BA from the University of Cincinnati.

Rabbi Slome is married to Kenneth S. Stern, an attorney, author, and directs a small family foundation. They live in Brooklyn and have two adult children, Emily and Daniel.
